New Vampires Looking for a Sire
To all who have never played Vampires! A Dark Alleyway and are new to the site you sire is the person you gain access from to play the game. They provide you with a biter link once you have Role-played out the siring taking place in Born into darkness. The link gives you access to the game where you create your in-game vampire. Once you have done this and have an IGN and start on your IGS you can post in all the other IC boards on this site. Once you have followed the link and have joined the game you will be able to view all the details of your vampires new family. You will be able to view your sire, and who sired them until you reach the master vampire of your new line. You will also be able to see if your vampire has any siblings.
It is a sire’s job to teach, but not to give hand outs. A sire will often teach their new childe how to play the game to gain Blood Points, coins and powers. A sire can do this through many ways so it is always advised to have some conversation with your new sire on what they plan to teach your new vampire and how.
Things that make a good match between childer and sire are personality matches, and a certain level of respect between both the players’ vampires and humans behind the vampires. Don’t be nervous or scared to go to your new sire with questions or problems; that’s what they are there for. Each sire is looking for certain things in their childer; things like loyalty, commitment to the game, willingness to learn, and other personality traits that will help them fit in with their family.
For a good match between childe and sire you may wish to consider a few things. Are the personalities of you character and theirs a match? Do you have any respect for the player or character? Do not feel that you are being left in the dark, if you have any problems you should ask your new sire as they will be only too happy to help. The only thing you have to consider is that all sires seek a few things from new childe; these things are loyalty to the new family, commitment to the game sire of things, willingness to learn what is being taught and good role-play.
Below is what to consider when looking for a new sire.
Who is your vampire to you?
Realising your own vampire is never easy, many take years to develop a perfect character which they understand and feel comfortable with. Most start this journey of discovery by making a character sheet. They may also find themselves asking a few questions such as, who is your vampire. What are their likes/dislikes? How do they act around others? Are they friendly, neutral or evil? How do they act around mortals? Do they have a past which they regret or take pride in? Most of these options can only be applied in RP but some can be taken into the game. If you vampire decided that they do not harm humans then IG you can opt not to drink the blood of the NPC humans provided. It is often recommended that you have at least the basics down before you go looking for a sire, as sires also like to know the above about vampires they may wish to take on.
What do you want to find in your potential sire?
Once you understand your character you may wish to ask yourself what they would look for in a sire. Do they wish for a sire with a strong maternal sense? Would they seek out their opposite a sire they will always be in conflict with? Do they wish for their sire to be good/evil? What morals would your character look for in a sire? Would your character look for a large family line or a small line? You must keep these questions in mind when you look for a sire. These questions will help you to narrow down your search for a new sire.
If you're not sure what sort of sire you're looking for the next best thing to do is create a "open" thread, put your character out there and see what you come up with. If at first you don’t' succeed you always have the choice to close the thread and try again. If this process doesn't work for you than try looking for someone on the Siring List.
Finding the perfect match
To start you will have to search for a sire, you can do this by either looking at the list of potential sires which are provided here, or you can post a topic on the Game OOC boards and see who replies. With the first option you may wish to contact the potential sire with some basic information of your character, or if you have a CS already provide them the link. Most sires will contact you back providing information on what they expect from a new childe, and in doing this you can best judge which sire is best suited for you new character.
The second option is more public than the first. Again it is recommended that you post what you are looking for in a sire and what your character is like. The others can reply and you can pick from the given replies you new potential sire.
Setting the in character meeting
After you have found a few sires that may be suitable you move onto the step of meeting them IC. This often involves making a siring thread here. *Remember that you do not have to decide right now, you never know a sire may come along who you had not even thought about but is better suited to your character. Never feel pressured to say yes to the first sire that comes along.* Once you feel ready for your character to meet the potential sires send them a PM inviting them to join the thread you have created in the BID area. This is where all new vampires start.*
Getting to know the person behind the vampire
Another idea for new vampires is to make contact with potential sires OOC. This will help you to get to know the person behind the character, this is important because when you need help you may need to contact your sire OOC for advice. If you cannot get along with your sire OOC then it can make for some very stressful role-play and IC meetings. An OOC meeting helps both the childe and sire make the right choice. If there is not connection OOC it is often advised that you look for someone who you get along with better. *Remember even though you may not get along with someone OOC you cannot bring those disagreements IC. Your opinion of a person should never affect your opinion of a character. Remember everyone has a different view point, and even if they do not share your views they may still have something to offer or show. Never exclude a person because of differences because you only hinder yourself.*
Starting your vampires unlife
If you feel that you are comfortable with who you have picked to be your characters new sire then allow them to know. If there are other potential sires taking place in the role-play also let them know you have made your choice so they can write their characters out. Once the siring has taken place in the role-play your new sire should send you the ‘biter link’ and you can then enter the game. The game will ask you the name of the childe you wish and after you have entered this you click the buttons saying ‘now give me blood’ and you are then bound to your new sire IG. *If for what ever reason your new sire forgets to explain the game to you then please feel free to contact a member or staff, or any person with a bold colored name as they will be more than happy to help you.*
Speak up, everyone was a newbie once
In the beginning and even once you have been role-playing your character for a long time, concerns and questions can and will arise. It is never advised to keep a concern or question bottled up as it can hinder future role-plays and meetings. Always try and keep a good line of communication open between yourself, your sire and you new bloodline. Never feel that you should not voice your concerns or questions. Always feel free that you can share things with your sire. Once concerns have been voiced they can be addressed, is you have any concerns with a potential sire say so, because if you do not voice these opinions you could end up with someone you really do not feel is right for your character.
Remember just because you have started a role-play with someone does not mean you have to stick with them. Once it becomes apparent that things are not working out, voice your concern and try and explain what you feel is going wrong. In doing this you may be able to sway the role-play back on track or save yourself the time and effort of taking part in a role-play you do not feel comfortable with.
Stepping out of your comfort zone
If you have questions once you are sired then do not feel afraid to contact your new sire, or any other member on the site. Remember everyone has questions to start with and asking is the first step to learning. There are many threads scattered around the site which provide the basic help needed for all new characters. Try looking here for basic advice. If your question cannot be answered by your sire or by whom ever you contact then try asking your question on the Game OOC section of the forum where you are more than likely to find an answer you seek.
Understanding that vampires are not the only creatures out there
Some characters on this site have opted not to role-play your normal vampire characters. Such species such as werewolves, dragons and hybrids have been seen and created on the site. *Remember that all IG weakness apply to all character no matter what species they are. You may RP an immunity to say holy water but IG you character can still be hurt by holy water.* for this weakness to be role-played an example will be provided. As holy water does not affect werewolves in RP most role-play that they are hit with something made of silver which gives equal damage to that which is given by holy water.
** Every creature is played with at least one weakness, meaning your character is always vulnerable to something. Having a character that is without weakness is unrealistic and administrative action can and will be taken due to power play, be creative with how you're going about creating and role-playing your character.**
Here is a quick reference for terms used on this page
Biter link:
This is the name used for the link which you are given after you are sire. Using this link you will enter the darkalley game where you can work on your vampire’s powers and blood. This link also links you to your sire and you can see this in the game and so can others if they happen to use the power of second sight.
Master Vampire:
A master vampire is a vampire with no sire. This can happen because their sire was killed or severed. It can also happen if the vampire is so old it is unclear who sired them. Master vampires used to be considered insignificant as they had no family to support them or to back them up. But now most hold master vampires with the same respect they would a normal sired vampire.
Sire:
A sire is the vampire who turns you. They are seen as a teacher, mother/father. It is a sire’s job to teach their childer and help them to better understand what they have become. In some cases some believe that the actions of a childe are a reflection on the sire.
Childe (Childer [plural]) :
A definition of a childe/r is a vampire who has been turned by you or another. They are seen as the child or offspring of another vampire. (Whoever’s biter link you follow to join the game are considered your sire. And you are their childe
In Character:
Anything in character or IC is you role-playing your vampire. This means you are not the one in control but in effect your character is. Boards on this forum which require you to be IC are as follows:
The City,
Born Into Darkness,
The Lounge,
The Outskirts,
The silent Gateway,
Villainous Times,
And Stranger Things Can Happen.
Out of Character:
Out of character or OOC means you as a person or Mun. Everything said OOC must stay OOC.
If you as a person find out something about another character OOC you cannot cross over to IC and use it against them. This goes for things which happen IC as well. If a character insults your character IC you cannot go OOC and ask for an apology because in reality you where not insulted your character was.
