-The Escape-
It was silent. Silent to the point that someone would think that their thoughts could be heard throughout the room. When someone could say, you would be able to hear a pin drop; even that was an understatement. One’s mind could be so barred from the outside world that their only friends are their thoughts and self conscious. To what point could a normal human being become so far past breaking point that their mind could be considered conscious? But then again; Lainara was anything but normal.
Huddled inside a containment cell with nothing but dim floor lights, barely illuminating the soft facial features that she bears, a young woman could be found in her early twenties. Her head rested gently upon the cold metal wall thoughtless and careless of her surroundings, a knee propped up her arm. She was wearing what seemed to be gray thin fabric pants and a grungy white t-shirt, just enough to cover up the necessities. Her attire spotted randomly with faded blood stains everywhere. Her hair was borderline black, but revealed hints of brown and fell in line with her shoulder blades seemingly well kept. Her eyes deep emerald green, almost as if you were to look into the crystal itself; unlike her human counterparts; her eyes, were slit strangely like a feline's.
At this present moment, she could be found awakening. Awakening from what seems to be a deep tranquil sleep. It takes her at least a half an hour before she regains full consciousness. Rubbing her eyes repeatedly to open them, she groans softly. Her eyes could be almost declared being nailed shut the drugs that were in her system having deemed so strong. When she gains enough strength she wobbles up grasping onto what wall she can to help her with her task. She walks over to the door of the cell and searches for the light switch shutting it off. Even the dim light that flickers is too bright for her to handle. Once the light is finally shut off her eyes adjust to the darkness. To the point she could see as well as a human could see in daylight. Curious as to what might be going on she bends down to the bottom of the steel door where the vent could be found. She peers through and sees at least ten lab technicians in awful white lab coats bustling about doing their daily rounds. She spots one of them sitting at the computer that monitors her holding cell. Pressing her ear against the vent to try to hear--
"Experiment CE-00653 seems to have waken -- sleep. The tranquilizer after the last experiment was successful --. Today we will begin the prep and -- experiment 421. We will need full security. There's no telling how CE-00653 will react this time around--" records the lab technician in a tape recorder before shutting it off abruptly when one of his supervisors show up. They were speaking too softly for her to her fully. One of them manages to turn and glance at the screen, noticing that she was eavesdropping on the conversation. He walks over to the vent and shuts it, accidentally cutting her ear. She pulls back clutching the wound with her hand, blood trickling down the back of it. "Crap!, That twit!" A soft growl can be heard as she makes her way back over to the corner and lies down, closing her eyes hoping to sleep it off.
3 hours later-
The locks of her containment cell loudly clanked open, of course with no regard to her sleeping. When the door was flung open, the light from the lab shone in brightly, hitting her face. Her eyes, not adjusted to this rush of bright light hurt slightly as she put a hand up trying to shield it and make out who was entering her cell. She furrowed her brow slightly; the cell was her own place. It was her place to confide in herself and be away from the bustle going on in the rest of the Sector. It was a place that she could be without being poked and prodded, or being tested for something or the other. At least the worst thing that could happen is something as little as a blood sample. Two large, muscular men stood inside the cell with long staffs with make-shift stun guns on the end of them. She had her run in with them before, and did not intend to try that again. Another man walked in behind them, straight for her with almost an intent smile on his face; hinting he enjoyed this time of the day. She knew what time it was. She could only close her eyes trying to back up as far as she can, wanting to almost melt into the wall, but she couldn't. She was dreadfully afraid of this man, even though the only thing she knew about him was his name -- Scott. He was a gray-haired man, scrawny, but he was the type of man that would be assigned to his job just because he was the type that enjoyed watching someone in pain. Struggling with her slightly, he managed to wriggle a high voltage shock collar around her neck, helping her up out of the cell.
Her head faced the ground. She hated looking back at all the technicians that blatantly stare at her, some of them taking a few steps back. She knew almost all of them were afraid of her. She happened to kill off two of them in previous experiences, and injured many others. She heard what sounded like a storm outside, but not knowing what it was she only thought it was another experiment going on in the upper levels. The two men placed her in a large white room and left quickly, it was a dark room, very dark room. There were panels of black glass on the ceiling; she guessed that they were the observatory. All of the big shots of the Company running this secret operation and the supervising research technicians were standing around the glass looking in, even though all she saw was dark, black, nothingness.
Dr. Scott was standing behind her as he led her inside the room. She manages to glance behind her and catch a glimpse of something shiny being pulled from his lab coat. She knew this was going to hurt as always, it was some other drug or contraption used to do crazy things to her mind or body. Whatever it was; she wasn’t ready for it. Suddenly, she felt a sharp pain in the back of her neck, being inserted into her spinal cord. As Dr. Scott pulled the end of the needle out only stick another in her arm, administering what seems to be a slight pinkish drug, softly he managed to relay to her, loud enough or her to hear, “Now now, I don’t want any complications with this one. Let’s decide to play nice and make sure you don’t take this funny lookin’ thing out of your neck – you won’t like the consequences.. “ She winced as he buzzed her collar a little bit, sending a cringing shock throughout her body to remind her of the grueling mistake it would be if she ‘did’ decide to mess with a “white coat”.
She rubs the back of her neck softly, not to disturb the weird wire sticking out of her neck.. “Damn, what will it be this time..?” She questions under her breath. She starts to walk cautiously toward the middle of the room when all of a sudden she blacks out.
It takes minutes before she regains consciousness and finds that Dr. Scott has departed the room. She closes her eyes slightly only for her vision to be blurred and her mind to feel a little drowsy. To get a better feel for her environment she decides it would be best to get a feline’s point-of-view. Leaning down towards the floor, walking in mid step, she manages to transform fully into a Black Panther. The light inside the room manages to adjust to her eyes even better than in her human form. She growls softly not liking the effects of what seems the drug that was given to her. It messed with her mind, it made her senses more aware her heart raced quite rapidly. She looked up at the ceiling with in intensity, she could now make out the silhouettes of the onlookers. What am I supposed to do?? I don’t know how long I can take this.. She thought. All of a sudden at one end of the room, a wall opens. A wall that was small enough to let a small swine through. A swine, though, did not end up entering through. It was a small child that curiously made its way through the door. This child looked about 4 years of age. Small enough that he probably thought he was somewhere filled with candy and surprises. He was a very small child. A child that dawned freckles, ginger hair, a red shirt with a yellow stripe across his chest and denim pants. All too innocent.
Mixed emotions at this point were running through her head. She knew the task at hand but was struggling herself to take it. Her instincts at first was to protect this small child from any harm that might be brought upon him by this experiment; but the confusion hit even more. Am I supposed to kill this young human?? She hadn’t eaten for days. She could see why they had chose to starve her, this experiment deemed important for the ones they had to show and tell to.
She feels a sharp pain surge through the back of her neck through her spine. She becomes rigid throughout. As if every muscle and bone in her body wasn’t controlled by her. She felt the sudden urge to attack this young child. No matter how innocent he may be. To her, this was the last sight the child would see before his last breath past his lips. This is his last horror this child is about to endure before his soul is released at such an early age. This was his last. She began an all out bound for him before she took a giant leap that would pounce him and give him the death grip.
All of a sudden, a huge crash could even be heard inside the experiment cell. The lights are immediately cut out leading to pitch blackness inside the room; the only light visible to anyone are the red warning lights. The speaker blares over the intercom system, "WARNING! -- WARNING! Power systems low. Electrical surge causing Mainframe shutdown. Error: Lockdown systems aborted. Please find the nearest exit possible. I repeat, everyone evacuate the building--" Faint screaming could be heard throughout the lab. People running in every direction. All of this new to her senses. It was a bad mistake to starve her over the past few days and people run as if they were rabbits lined up for the slaughtering..
To make matters worse, the child that was sacrificed to her raging mind and hunger; was only a well planned hologram. A well thought out one at that. It was time for revenge. Everyone who caused her pain and suffering would feel the pain threefold tonight. On this night of a blood-ridden storm.
Tapes were retrieved a few days later by the military. Only one recording stood out from the rest. It was the last words from Dr. Scott himself--
"All lab experiments were contained, but Sector 7 malfunctioned" He states in between heaving breaths. "I knew this was going to happen! I called maintenance down her days ago but they said they fixed it! Experiment CE-00653 cannot be found anywhere. God save us all! --" Faint growling can be heard in the background. The only shadow seen was in the shape of a large Panther. From the evidence gathered, the only thing that could be concluded was experiment CE-00653 loose in Sector 7. The last remaining recording on the tape was bloodcurdling screaming. When we sent our troops to examine the situation, no one from Sector 7 was found alive.
